Washington couples often follow similar customs and patterns as other families throughout the United States. During a typical year, married couples often participate in repeated patterns of celebration involving birthdays, anniversaries, national holidays and family vacations. What may come as a surprise to many, however, is that studies suggest divorce rates often coincide with these special times.
The results of one study were recently presented at an American Sociological Association conference. The study involved analyzing divorce data from more than a dozen counties in Washington over the past 14 years. An interesting bit of information noted that divorce rates were consistent regardless of economic fluctuations across the state.
Those who oversaw the study said that couples often delay their plans to divorce for the sake of family unity during traditional celebration times. Also, it appears that celebrations and family vacations may lead couples to hope that their problems can be resolved. To the contrary, however, many spouses apparently end up feeling more at odds with their spouses after spending extended periods of time together during family travels.
An uncanny similarity appears to exist between seasonal divorce trends and those observed among those who suffer from suicidal tendencies. The idea of ending a marriage may leave some Washington spouses feeling helpless. In such a situation, it often helps to discuss the situation with an experienced counselor before taking any formal action. A family law attorney is able to provide sound legal counsel and effective representation to an individual facing complicated issues pertaining to divorce.
